We are about to start a new chapter in our life’s and to say the last 16 months has been eventful is an understatement to say the least.

I was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer about 16 months ago and also informed that I would possibly be made redundant although I could move to a new location. I really did not want to move with the company and it would involve a lot more travelling whilst I enjoy travelling perhaps not for work. I already do around 30000 miles a year and did not wish to increase that plus have treatment for Cancer for around 2 years.

It was quite an easy choice really so we thought long and hard what we wanted to do and decided that I would leave my company where I have worked for the last 26 years. We would also sell our house and move to Cornwall.

Well I now leave work in 8 days time and we move out of house in about 12 days time. The fun part is we have not yet found a new home although one is on the cards but some issues.

We have decided to have a clear out and downsize and reduce our footprint. We have a storage container booked so most of our stuff will go in there and we have a touring Caravan so going to take some time out to enjoy life and chill out for a month of so.

In that time hopefully things will fall into place. Its really exciting and never thought I would do it. We have no real plan things in general will work out i am sure.

I also have few months off from any treatment so that’s cool as well and now is the time to look for new opportunities and some adventure.

I have not blogged in a while with so much going on in my work and private life. I am still having BCG treatment and finished a course of three treatments about a month ago. I then have had to have a Biopsy which happens about every three months. I hate this period as it causes quite a lot of anxiety waiting for results. I now have a rest for a few months.

I have now gone 16 months since my original diagnosis which was a ta g3 which means the Cancer was only on the surface of the bladder and had not penetrated the muscle wall but was quite an aggressive cancer. My consultant stated at the start yep we can sort it but it wont be easy and if it fails then bladder removal was a possibility although he never told me I had about a 60% chance of kicking it. However now he says its 90% +. I don’t really do the percentages to be honest but will take that one.

We are moving to Cornwall in the next month and I am taking early retirement from work also was offered redundancy so that helps. We wont be rich and  will look to do something. I wont be able to just sit still.

I have become very interested in diet and might look to try and do something in that field. We have so much to learn about diet and the affects it has on our bodies. I am not vegan or Vegetarian however I eat very little meat now and no processed food if I can help it. We have become a nation of quick fixes in terms of food and our diet is very poor in many cases. I see many more people with Cancer now and convinced much if this is due to diet.

I think I have been lucky in many ways and my Consultant has been excellent. However I have many friends who are suffering and some who have lost the battle and my thoughts today are with those that have not won the War.

The down side is I wont have the same Consultant but he gave me his number and said any problems get in touch also he said now I am on the winning side and we are well on the way in this journey.

I am planning on doing the shine walk again which is the full marathon in September for Cancer research. I would also like to raise more money for Cancer charities and perhaps do some voluntary work in this sector in the future.

It’s time for more Fishing and Cycling and Swimming as well…..
